Add hosts to Host groups

Add hosts to a Host group to logically organize the hosts in the instance and to use the benefits of the Host groups feature. When you add hosts to an empty Host group, the policies assigned to the group are automatically pushed to the relevant hosts.

For example, a tried and tested Windows policy 'Server-level policies' is assigned to a Host group 'High-value servers'. Now, add all newly added/managed Windows and Linux servers to the 'High-value servers' group.

Before you add hosts to a Host group, ensure that the policies use the right level of Policy settings required to secure the hosts.

  1. Go to Hosts.

  2. Select the hosts and click Add to a Group (from the floating panel on the top).

  3. Select the Host group to which you want to add the hosts.

  4. Click Add.

Move hosts across Host groups

Move hosts to a different Host group, just as you would add them to a Host group. You can also move all the hosts in the instance to a Host group.

By design, the policies assigned to the target Host group are automatically pushed to the hosts. The actual time for the new policy to take effect on a host is dependent on the following factors:

  • Host's connectivity with the Xprotect instance

  • Time window you set to specify how frequently the agents on the host must receive policy updates (in the Advanced Policy setting of the policy)
